Direct Dictation Model

• The user speaks directly into a PC via either a wired or wireless microphone.  Microphone choices vary depending on logistical considerations and capabilities.

  • Headset - Hands free, most accurate since it stays optimally positioned during dictation.  Useful where many dictations will be performed consecutively or hands are occupied with another task.
  • Handheld - Very accurate if used properly.  Best choice for users doing quick dictations and frequently leaving the PC.
  • Desktop - Very accurate if used properly.  Generally require quiet environments. Good choice for users doing quick dictations and frequently leaving the PC.
     

• Transcription takes place in real time, inserting text at the current cursor location.  The software will work in the following MEDITECH environments.

  • MEDITECH Client Server (PCM, EDM, EMR, Nursing, ITS, PCS, Path)
  • MEDITECH Magic  (PCM, EDM, ITS, Departmental, Nursing, LAB, Path)
  • Citrix compatibility is available
  • Other Microsoft Windows based software such as Office, Outlook, etc.
     
• NOTE:  In this model the users are responsible for immediately correcting any mistakes that may occur.  Because accuracy levels and speed of dictation have improved so greatly the objection to requiring this practice is markedly decreased.

Background (Server) Dictation Model*

• The user records speech on a supported recording device.

• The recording is tagged with identifying demographics (patient name, dictator, etc.) and transmitted to a server.  The server processes the incoming sound files, as follows:

  • Triages incoming recordings and queues them according to importance criteria
  • Loads appropriate voice profile
  • Transcribes recording and adapts user profiles
     

• Transcripts are routed back to the provider desktop or to a correctionist for proofing.
