Gaining Productivity Through High Accuracy
While
the base speech recognition engine is quite good it provides
tools for us to improve accuracy for your organization.
Again, this leads back to making sure the user has the best
"out of box" experience ensuring acceptance of the technology.
Customization comes in many forms. For example, PCA will
take data specific to your organization, such as staff names,
and deliver this back as a supplement to the user voice
profiles. We call this
PCA SAVE™
Customer Edition and it will show up on PCA implementation
quotes. Also, PCA enhances the base medical vocabularies with our own medical specialty vocabularies that
have been developed over many years of collecting previously
dictated material. PCA's collection of vocabularies is called
PCA SAVE™ and they too will
appear on PCA quotes. Furthermore, still more specific information can be
provided to a specific user's voice profile by analyzing their own previously
dictated reports. As part of training PCA will educate either the users or
the trainers on how to perform this task.
Gaining Efficiency Through Spoken Commands
Spoken commands come in two styles. One is dictation
or text shortcuts and the other is command-and-control.
Many MEDITECH users already understand the concept of dictation
shortcuts. In MEDITECH they are called "canned text".
Speech recognition is a wonderful way of issuing dictation
shortcuts for a variety of reasons. First, users don't
have to stop dictating to press keys or click the mouse when
they want to issue the shortcut. Second, because shortcuts
don't rely on mnemonics users can easily remember hundreds of
them. When users want their text for a normal review of
systems they will simply say "review of systems normal".
The second kind of spoken command is one that initiates command and control
events. In the
different versions of MEDITECH command and control spoken
commands are
available to navigate through screens, dialog boxes, data fields, and text boxes.
These shortcuts expedite the data entry process by filling in
the necessary information in required fields and then racing
through the prefilled ones. For example, in a Magic screen
suppose a doctor needs to do an office note. To do this
manually via keyboard and/or mouse it might take as long as 20
seconds or more. Initiating this
process by voice can reduce this time by 90 percent! Multiply just this one
shortcut times the number of reports done during the day times
the number of
providers and the savings become obvious. PCA's developed
package of spoken commands is called
PCA MEDIMACS™
and it appear as a line item in PCA quotes. All aspects
of PCA MEDIMACS can be modified down to the
provider level. |
